Fraud Alert

03/15/2016

It has been reported that some local residents are receiving fraudulent telephone calls from a third party advising them that their computers have a virus and/or that a new system update is required to ensure the regular usage of their devices.  Such callers may try to associate themselves with a recognized business name, such as Microsoft, Facebook, or computer manufacturers such as Dell and HP.  They seek remote access to your computer under the guise that they will perform updates and computer services.

Please be reminded to NEVER grant access to an unknown third-party company without verification of the caller’s identity and NEVER provide credit card, bank account, or personal information to an individual over the phone from a suspicious service call.  Providing this information to such callers can expose you to fraud, identity theft, and data breaches.  Suspicious service calls should be reported to local law enforcement.
